[nospaces] YOU HAD ME HOOKED AGAIN FROM THE MINUTE YOU SAT DOWN [attr="class","mtnsndb"]the bar destroyed. the resistance scattered. castle town in ruins, the townsfolk terrified, alcohol flow alarmingly thin. all in all - a disaster. telma supposed, on some level, that she should be scared. she had no misconceptions that pure luck was the reason she was still alive and breathing. she'd run out to investigate the screaming when the dragon destroyed her bar. from then on it was chaos, and she was so swept up in the effort to get people to safety that she never had a chance to look for her people. she hadn't run into any of the resistance since the attack - none were in the bar, thank the goddesses - and she hadn't had the chance to seek anyone out. the beasts were gone, and the hubbub had subsided, and finally exhaustion broke over her.[break] [break]
nursing a few injuries - minor scratches and burns, one particularly nasty gash across her upper thigh (no i won't wear pants) - she finally, finally sat down on the steps leading to her ruined bar, and found suddenly that she was unable to get up again. telma sighed. a glance around (no one watching) and she stuck a hand in her bag, rooting around for a moment and thinking hard about how incredibly shitfaced she wanted to be until she felt a flask in her hand. she pulled it out, took a long swig. [break] [break]
"i'm going to get up and go look for ashei," she said out loud, firmly, like she meant it. but telma stayed seated. she had another drink.

{ } He rode north the moment that he heard of the attacks. He had been excavating some ruins in the Gerudo Desert for a couple weeks, and he had already been on his way home, but after stopping at a small village and hearing of the fate that was Ordon, he feared for the worse and raced to the Capital. The fear that was plastered across his face when he had initially arrived was like no other. Billows of smoke that shrouded the view of the castle, and hundreds of people scattered, injured, or dead. Getting into the city was nearly impossible - many guards keeping people from entering while it was in its chaotic aftermath, but once explained as to who he was to the Royal Family, they allowed him passage. He scanned every area for anyone he knew, but thankfully most of the city had been evacuated before too much damage. He wondered what had went down; why the castle was under fire, and who had such a magic to allow this to happen. Then he remembered the bar, and his face went pale. Quickly, he yanked the reins to his horse and changed direction into the alleyway near the city hub. Rubble. Ash. Most buildings in this sector were completely demolished, and he hoped to the gods that no one was inside. Telma. He prayed Telma had gotten out in time. He whipped the reins harder, demanding the horse to move faster toward the end of the alley, where he was met with several semi-standing buildings... but The Risky Business was not one of them. He halted the horse, staring a moment in horror as he felt the atmosphere become heavy around him. Please have let Telma escape. Ashei. Shad. Rusl had already been missing.
He dismounted before slowly walking toward the ruins, when a fiery woman caught his attention at the bottom of the stairs. The same sun kissed coffee tone he knew all too well."Telma," was all he could say, his voice shaky. "...How did..."

[nospaces] YOU HAD ME HOOKED AGAIN FROM THE MINUTE YOU SAT DOWN [attr="class","mtnsndb"]distantly she registered the sound of hooves thundering against cobblestone, and though immediately one hand pried loose a dagger from her boot she kept her other firmly on her flask. priorities. her hound pounded against her chest, thump-thump thump-thump, in time with the cadence of the horse's urgent gallop. every muscle felt coiled tight as a spring, ready to erupt. [break] [break]
there was, she knew, no real reason to feel this fear. the monsters were gone. the dragon was gone. anyone approaching on horseback would be vaguely humanoid and more than likely from the castle or its guard. but immediately, mercilessly, her mind filtered through a thousand possibilities - broken bodies, ashei is dead, shad is dead, guess what we found rusl! he's dead too!, useless guards relaying useless next-of-kin notifications, not that she would get those, she wasn't anyone's kin in the way that mattered to the letter of the law- [break] [break]
and just when telma felt ready to drive a blade into the throat of the next person who spoke to her, if only to stave off any news she didn't want, she heard boots on stone. a moment, heavy, when she didn't dare look round to see who had come and found her. hesitation. that null point between hope and the fear to feel it. [break] [break]
telma, he said, and she always swore she would never cry when people needed her, but gods, sometimes she needed too. [break] [break]
"auru," she said, more breath than sound, and in the space of an instant she had her arms flung around his neck. armor dug into her sore, bruised flesh, but she didn't care; her dagger lay on the stairs, forgotten. the flask remained secure within her grip. her face, wet, pressed hard against the crook of his neck. "you dumb fuck." [break] [break]
for a long moment she stayed there, assuring herself of his reality - solid physicality, undeniable, beneath her hands. evidence, the resistance went on and on about evidence and research and now, here, maybe ever, there wasn't a scrap of data more empirical than auru's familiar scent. the raspy scratch of his beard. [break] [break]
eventually telma pulled away. took another drink of her whisky, swaying in place - shouldn't drink on an empty stomach, too late now, whoops - offered it to auru. he was a connoisseur like no other. "i haven't seen the others," she said roughly. "shad. ashei. are they safe?"

{ } In an instance, she was flung around him, and he was suddenly relieved to see that she wasn't injured too badly. He closed his eyes, letting out a sigh in respite. His arms closed around her, holding her carefully so not to hurt her further, and he chuckled at her response. "Dumb fuck? Even with the risk of death, you're as saucy as ever," he simpered before pulling back to look over the damage. She was lucky; from the look of how the bar went down, she got out of it generally unscathed, aside form bruising and that nasty cut. He looked around again, taking note that most of the city was pretty much empty, aside from those dedicated to the relief efforts. He took a deep breath at her inquiry on the other Resistance members, and he grimaced with uncertainty. "I haven't seen anyone. I just got here myself, but I'm sure they're fine. They're smart kids, they know what to do when something like this happens," at least, he hoped. Then again, he wouldn't put it past Ashei to try and stand up to whatever it was.
And now he was a lot more worried than previously. "But we need to find you somewhere to stay until things quiet down."

[nospaces] YOU HAD ME HOOKED AGAIN FROM THE MINUTE YOU SAT DOWN [attr="class","mtnsndb"]a breathy laugh. telma sniffled. "you know me," she said, a forced lightness to her tone. "attitude will get me everywhere. i laugh in the face of danger, et cetera." she let him look her over; she couldn't resist stretching out her leg enticingly when his gaze dropped to the gash, ignoring the pain from the movement. "like what you see, sweetheart?" she teased, but it came out weaker than she'd wanted. flat. more habitual than genuine flirtation. [break][break]
the younger members of the resistance were smart, strong, and capable, the lot of them. they were good people. that was what worried her, her mind rolling neatly onto the same track as auru's - when faced against a great danger, smart, strong, and capable people tended to throw themselves headlong into the thick of it. "tell me you know for certain that ashei wasn't right up against that thing, and i'll feel better," she said, her exasperation a mask for her worry. "you know her as well as i do." [break][break]
somewhere to stay? oh, no. "i'm staying right here," telma snapped, more harshly than she'd intended, but she just barreled right along. "i need to find the kids and get this place up and running again. i'm not letting some asshole lizard run me out of my fucking home, auru."

{ } He let out a hearty chuckle in response to her exposing her wound at him, and he shook his head before taking a closer look. "Sweetie, we gotta clean that. I know that doctor... if he is still alive is a bit sketchy, so if you'd let me do the honors..." he trailed off for a moment before forming a smirk over his lips. "Honestly, any excuse to hold your legs."He wasn't the best at lightening the mood, but he tried. At least, he hoped it would take her mind off of things for a bit. Still, her mind was running off to worrying about the Resistance as usual, and as Ashei came into question, he frowned and looked down. "I want to say that she wasn't... but if she was in town she probably was."Still, her refusal to leave to get some help caught him a bit off guard. Even after everything - and her bar being completely demolished she still wanted to try to get things up and running again? That could take months! He didn't blame her for wanting to find the kids. He wanted to as well. "Well... I mean... Let me help you then. Okay? But let's focus on finding the kids first before we try to rebuild this bar. We may have to think about relocating..."
