If my velocity starts to make you sweat then just don't let go Jace sat in his room, letting the sunlight illuminate his quarters. His morning tea in a cup to his left, and his staff in his right. Right, time for business! Well, it had been for a while, and business wasn't good. The reports were coming in from some knights, and to say Jace didn't like what he was reading was a complete understatement. Gone, gone, everything was gone the way it was put. Each report had some minor differences as expected, but they all told the same general message. The town was a disaster and it was like everyone had all left. No bodies, no blood, nothing. It was like a storm had rolled in and everyone evacuated. That was how it was reading anyway. So Jace decided that he would confirm these reports for himself in a more hands off manner. Taking his staff, he gazed at it for a few moments before the images began to take shape within the crystal ball. There it was, the village, with its two lines of buildings in its secluded location in what seemed like an isolated desert. Or what was left of it. Empty, the buildings destroyed. To say that a storm had hit was inaccurate though. There wasn't even any debris. It was more like someone had just randomly dumped powerful acid on parts of the buildings while everyone just up and left. There were no animals, no bodies, he couldn't even find anything like blood stains to imply there was a struggle. Pulling himself back to the castle, Jace sat back in his chair. He was going to have to tell Zelda. Her first real crisis. Everyone knew it was a matter of when, but for it to be so soon, well he hadn't really expected that. Finishing off his tea as quickly as he could, he piled up the reports and tucked them under his arm before setting off on the Obsidian Tower to the Throne Room, like hell he was going to walk! Of course, when he got there, two knights barred the path with the door shut behind them. They took one look at Jace before they gave each other an eye roll and something resembling a weary sigh. "The Queen is hearing her subjects, mage. She is not to be disturbed." The one on the left said, making it clear they weren't going to let him in. Jace had to admit, they'd adapted to the idea of her as Queen rather fast. "I-I see." Jace could only reply as he was forced to wait outside. Well maybe it was for the best. Something like this getting out would definitely frighten the common folk inside. And also probably sour Zelda's mood. That'd be bad too. [googlefont=Oswald]

It was a relatively good evening as far as Zelda was concerned. Listening to her people was as important as it was easy and, for the most part, it tended to be a pretty relaxing experience for her. Most of their problems were simple and direct, with a few even solved on the spot. Politics were for the courts. This was a simple matter of better educating herself and making a good impression upon the representatives here to see her. Lending an empathetic ear was the least she could do, after all! The hard part came later, when she actually hard to try and solve the problems she was being told about. Eventually, her subjects would be dismissed and she would be left in the company of her guard again. One by one they exited, only for one particular man to return with a guard flanking him. Hmm..? And just who was that? Zelda didn't much appreciate the lone audience being demanded of her, but as the man drew a bit closer she abruptly realized she had the wrong idea entirely.
She now recognized that this was not one of the men she'd been speaking to earlier but another entirely! The princess felt a bit silly, but quickly dismissed that thought and stood up to address Jace, waiting for him to finish approaching her. If he met her eyes, he would find that she greeted him with a pleasant little smile before she spoke any words. She was quite welcoming, if not very formal. It was to be expected, of course. The knight that had escorted Jace in would suddenly come to a stop, making a point to be a bit noisy about it so as to signal Jace to do the same. It wasn't that the knight thought he didn't know not to run up and hug the princess, or any such silliness, but this was a place of protocol and it was often better to be safe when handling those you did not know personally.
"Her Majesty, The Queen, will hear you now." the knight stated, earning himself a thoughtful look from Zelda. The knight was jumping the gun on that queen bit, but she'd come to accept this as a compliment. Albeit, it probably had no place in such a formal setting. She decided not to correct him, however, as the situation wasn't quite formal enough for her to bother. Finally, he princess promptly returned her gaze back to Jace. The concern in her expression revealed that she already had suspicions about the nature of this interruption. The timing was quite off, which probably meant it was urgent. Urgent generally didn't indicate good things. Regardless, she waited patiently to hear Jace out.

If my velocity starts to make you sweat then just don't let go As Jace stood before Zelda, he felt a knot form in his stomach and a lump rise in his throat. His arms felt a bit shaky at the fact that he would have to be the one to break the bad news to her. She held the pleasant smile that he'd come to expect from her during his tenure as the Court Mage, but he knew that behind those eyes she was beginning to piece together a vague picture. Perhaps she was just attempting to appear strong in the face of inevitable disaster? He dropped to one knee for several seconds as he paid his respects before rising and shakily approached her, even walking. It was certainly a rarity for Jace L'arachel. The knights didn't seem all that quick to stop him. After all, it was Jace. What could he possibly do? It was well known that even as the Court Mage that Zelda would almost certainly trounce him in a fight, even in a magic duel. That and he was a top member of the court. That helped too. He was no battlemage and it showed, so some wondered why she kept him. He ascended the dai and closed the distance, he leaned in to whisper in his liege's ear, hoping to keep panic to a minimum. "The Hidden village has been destroyed, your Highness. No sign of Impaz or any survivors."And with that he backed off, holding in his breath to see how she would take it. Her first real disaster since coming to power. Not only that but there was a simple, even uglier realization underneath the loss of a village, that one in particular. The Hidden Village encompassed the last of the Sheikah. The simple truth is that with its destruction, there was a real chance that the Sheikah were finally extinct, and the blood ties between them and the throne finally severed. Not a good thing. Zelda's chest tightened with anxiety as Jace made the mistake of approaching her without invitation. It was understandably dangerous to let people, even your own subjects, invade your personal space like that. It wasn't that Zelda was concerned about assassins, but it was one of those formalities that you didn't want to take lightly, especially in public, lest it falls out of practice by the time you need it to save your life. Fortunately for Jace though, Zelda's benevolent nature came through for him and he received no resistance--other than a questioning look, that is. ...All of this was promptly forgotten when the news of the hidden village's fall met her ears, though it did little to calm her down. The princess' eyes widened in shock and, for a brief moment, her breath was stolen from her. One could just see her gaze drift off into space for a moment as her mind traveled to the old village, trying to wrap her head around what she'd just been told.
"...How?" Zelda wound up breathlessly asking after a long moment's consideration. The idea that the village residents could have simply evacuated prior to whatever had ruined the town had immediately occurred to her, but that was only a comfort if they could find them, which so far wasn't the case. She needed to know more before she could decide how to react. A search party seemed obvious, but what if an invading force was in the area? They could encounter it again, and unless their search and rescue party was equipped for it that would be a tragedy!

If my velocity starts to make you sweat then just don't let go Really, he didn't regret moving in like that. What was he going to do? Announce it for everyone to hear and cause a stir? It'd be a major stir at that. Although her reaction was already going to be a major stir. Even then he found himself questioning the questioning gaze she had given him? Really? Did she think he could do something? If it wasn't for the underlying implication that he seemed to get that even Zelda thought he was a slimeball, he would've felt a little impressed at himself. Oh he hoped it wasn't that though, he already had enough trouble here as it was. How though? Well, fair question. To that, Jace just handed her his staff to look at. If he could use the crystal ball, then he had no doubt that she would be able to as well. Trying to keep things contained, he leaned back in to whisper. "We don't know. It looks like someone dumped acid on the buildings but that's all we have." He remarked before pulling back again. Wow now that he thought about it, leaning in to whisper like that probably made him look even worse didn't it? What was it with these knights and being all hurrargh-smash about everything? Maybe he just wanted to keep things contained! Wringing his hands a bit, Jace sighed, having a feeling that he probably wouldn't be too thrilled with the results of what he was about to say. "As always, your Highness, the Knights, and I, are at your command. Is there anything you would have me do?" Then again, she knew his talents, so maybe it wouldn't be so bad. [googlefont=Oswald]

It took Zelda some time to really process what was going on. Not the least of which because she had accepted Jace's staff to get a better look at the scene. She definitely saw what Jace meant, but what she saw also left her with more questions than answers. An organized force would have simply used fire she rationalized, therefore she must have been looking at the work of a monster or perhaps some supernatural force. Probably the former, if she had to wager a guess. ...But the problem with that conclusion, of course, was that anything that could ravage a town like that would likely be more than a match for a humble scouting party--even a heavily armed one. To simply throw her people at whatever was behind this disturbance until it eventually succumbed was to deem them as acceptable losses, a thought that did not sit well with Zelda. Even from a practical standpoint, the consequences of such a course of action seemingly outweighed the losses they'd already suffered. She silently resolved to do better.
At this point, Zelda no longer questioned Jace's intentions. Instead, she questioned his resolve. Taking a moment to steel herself so that she could speak calmly, she finally addressed the mage. "...Yes. I need to request a royal guard to accompany me to the Hidden Village. I would like to investigate the circumstances there myself, but I require the company of someone who can be trusted to look after me." Zelda would reply, eyeing Jace knowingly with a hint of curiosity. She was entrusting him to find someone, it seemed. Or rather, to choose someone. She would gain a better understanding of him through his response, especially if it was a brave one.

If my velocity starts to make you sweat then just don't let go Taking his staff back, Jace could only blink at her given instructions for a moment. Wait, she was going? Oh dear, what if there was something waiting for her? She wasn't going to listen was she? What if it was still there? Well, no, it wasn't still there, he'd seen that for himself, but still, it could be dangerous! And if she was going then that meant that he needed to make sure that she was properly guarded by people she could trust, and were able to keep him safe. Naturally, this meant not Jace. But he had said they'd do whatever she ordered... He fidgeted a bit under her gaze before finally being able to answer. Right, well, he would just pick the obvious solution. "I, yes, your highness, I will assemble a party and place it under the command of the Knight Captain." Really, Keldric was one of the better fighters they had so to him, it made perfect sense to pick him to accompany her. Get some other knights to help keep her safe. Really it'd be better for Hyrule if she didn't go at all, but he had a feeling she wasn't backing down. As for him, he'd stay out of it, maybe keep an eye on the two of them through his crystal ball. If he had to search too then he saw no reason why he couldn't just do it with magic from a distance rather than having to actually be there. Jace nodded a bit, before hopping onto his staff and floating the hell out of there. He needed to get to work. Her first real crisis. Not what he figured it'd be. [END] [googlefont=Oswald]
