It was late in the night for the trip to Eldin, and the group had taken a stop after several hours of riding to rest up after what had been an understandably long day for all of them. Night watches were assigned in order to ensure the protection of the small caravan, as Volga had no intent on allowing something to get the drop on them at this point. It was hard to call Hyrule "safe" anymore, it was no longer a place you could travel alone without wondering if something was going to attack you in your sleep. With any semblance of protection all but obliterated along with much of Castle Town's population, it feel upon the individuals to ensure their own safety.
Honestly if he had his way, they would have just made it there in one night to not even worry about it. But for once, Volga had to take the needs of others into account. So, with a suitably sized campfire to not draw too much attention and having the horses circled around it to minimize the amount of light getting outside of their group, Volga stood just outside the circle fully armed and practicing with his dragon spear. Thrusts, swipes, arcing swings; he was practicing a variety of moves outside of an area where he'd hit any of the others. This was nothing new for him, such practice routines were almost daily. The only things he didn't have on his person were the deku spear and the destroyed great sword, both set on the ground near the horse he was using. They were not anything he viewed as any kind of threat to himself, so even if somehow an enemy snuck in and grabbed one or both of them, he was still more than capable of defending himself.
Hopefully though, the other on the night watch with him at the time would make sure that didn't happen. As it turned out, he was paired with the one he knew the least about, the late add-on to their entourage. He didn't even know their name, though he didn't put too much weight on that. He didn't know a lot of names. Very few were actually worth remembering. May be this human was worth something; may be he was totally useless. He at least hadn't slowed them down, so that was something. The dragon knight didn't put too much stock in him though, focusing mainly on his training but not allowing himself to zone out doing it. Lack of awareness was the greatest enemy, especially at night.

[attr="class","ohlove"] [attr="class","lacking"] [attr="class","eyes"]✎ tag: Volga ✉ notes: starting to move again both were silent. there were ways for kicking and screaming. He recognized everyone in their group, except for this guy. And that bothered him, that really bothered him. What bothered him even more was that this guy had an undeniable air of familiarity to him. Alex didn't think he knew the guy, but there was something in there. There were too many questions surrounding this guy that no one seemed to really care about, but Alex? It drove Alex nuts. What was with this guy? Alex looked down at the guy's weapons. A wooden spear and a broken greatsword. He wasn't sure what was up with the greatsword, but the spear, simple as it was, was pretty clearly of Deku make, so it was obvious that if nothing else, that this guy was in and pretty cozy with the Deku.
So now here he was, having to keep watch with this guy that he really didn't know anything about. Truth was he'd have preferred to have watch with Ashei or Seyka, as he at least knew them somewhat. Link, not so much. He knew the guy from having fought together against Selos, and from Alex having bummed out at his house for a couple days, but he'd mostly left the guy alone seeing as after that entire incident, the Hylian seemed to be in a persistently bad mood. So was that Colin kid. Really, Ordon, while it was sad to see it destroyed, was kind of filled with mopey, pessimistic people, the more he thought about it.
His Warden's sword was at his side as he leaned against a tree, Dominion rod in hand. He looked at said rod and looked back at Volga training. Shit this was boring, just watching him swing that spear around. He looked again at the rod, and then again, back at Volga. Tilting his Dominion Rod again, he tried to tug on the spear the man was wielding just a bit to see if it would give any. See how long he could keep doing it before this newcomer figured out what was going on. It'd at least be something that would let him pass the time. This was going to be a long night otherwise. The tug was slight, but any force that wasn't his own was pretty easy to notice. Volga gave a couple more thrusts with the spear just to see, and the small tug happened again and again. While it could have been an enemy, there was a more likely candidate out of the corner of his eye. The small rod in the human's hand was tilting in about time with the tugging sensations he felt upon his spear. A very minor telekinetic effect probably. Now that he took a better look at it, he saw that the boy also had a very familiar make of sword at his belt. A Warden's sword, standard long sword make; didn't see too many of those up in the mountains. Back in the day they were a dime a dozen, everybody picking the long sword for ease of use over the larger equivalent that he favored. Probably the only reason it still had anything left of it's blade to speak of.
Securing the dragon spear to his back, he made his way towards the circle of horses and grabbed the broken greatsword, before changing direction to the boy's location by the tree. His stance was obviously not hostile, but even then his grip on the greatsword was one that was ready to strike out if need be. But from a man who was almost made of anger and hostility, there was none towards the boy, so he probably wasn't going to attack him. "Guess the Wardens have gotten new toys," he commented, gave aimed at the rod for a moment before going to meet Alex's own, "Or the standards for what constitutes a warrior of the wardens has gone down."
Though his words were harsh, he didn't really direct any ire towards Alex at the moment. It was more like social commentary, on a topic that he appeared rather familiar with. After looking over the boy for a moment, he let out an audible sigh. If there was one thing he had given up when he chose this life, it was social graces. It made life a much simpler thing. And it annoyed him whenever he ran into it because it made interactions that much more difficult. The only time that it seemed anybody could ignore them was during combat.
"If you've got something to say, then say it."
It didn't mean he couldn't push for change in people around him. May be he could make a man out of them after all.
