IF MEMORIES ARE SHADOWS
we'd best not waste the light
Charity had been working nonstop since she arrived in Castle Town with healing all of the injured denizens who came to her for help. Every few hours she had to take a break to recover her strength, eat and take a moment for herself. The moment she set herself ready to continue working again she was using more of her healing magic. But there were still so many people out there who needed help. It felt like there was no end to the line of people.
She didn't realize she'd be working until the sun went down and the stars came out. Night time had arrived so suddenly when she least expected it! Sweet Nayru, where had all of the time gone?! It flew so quickly.
The smile on the faces of the people she’s helped was worth it. She had to keep reminding herself that if she kept healing them then it meant more people could help with the relief efforts. The burden would get lighter as time went on. Charity enjoyed the feeling of actually being useful instead of a total klutz who made a mess out of everything. The light from her healing magic gave a soft glow. Her hands rested on another injured citizen's ankle.
"All better. You should be able to walk now." She said it with a exhausted smile. The lady stood up onto her feet amazed by the fact she was on her feet again. With a string of thank you, the formally injured woman walked away with glee. An big yawn exhaled from her throat she couldn’t resist. It was no good. She couldn’t keep this up for much longer. Charity was getting exhausted.

And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
Dieter’s face was contorted in discomfort, his eyes underscored with dark bags – proof of his accumulated fatigue. Over the past eight to twelve hours, he’d learned that it wasn’t easy to orchestrate continuous relief efforts – his choice of support hadn’t quite made that task and easier. No, the Craftsmen and Builders had kept to themselves, quickly finding their niche among those carting rubble to be disposed of. Those he’d brought along to serve food and pass out supplies to those in need, they did their job without complaint. No, it was the dreaded Shamans he’d brought along, they’d constantly felt the need to wonder about instead of staying in one designated area – their reasoning was that not all of the injured could come to them. Truthfully, he couldn’t refute such logic but it was cumbersome to have to go search for them in between each person he and Crystal had managed to extract from beneath the rubble.
He hadn’t forgotten about Charity, her vibrant pink hair and kind-hearted personality made sure of that. Every time he’d walked by her station, he’d notice that she was always hard at work. Of course, she’d taken a couple breaks here and there – it was necessary for her to restore her depleted energies. He’d witnessed it once with Nerine, if a Fairy expended too much of their magic it impacted them harshly. He wasn’t entirely certain of the extent of damage it could do, he’d only observed it once – death was certainly within the realm of possibilities. He’d made it a point to stop at one of the stands that another Deku had set up. He’d ordered two bowls of herbal venison stew and arranged for Charity’s to have an extra portion of both meat and vegetables; she’d more than earned it.
He’d also requested a small water skin filled with some of their medicinal tea – it paled in comparison to what the people of Castle Town owed her for her diligent efforts. He’d offered them a curt smile, proud to know that his people were getting increasingly more involved with the survivors. Little did they know, a second caravan was on the way – it was filled with extra supplies, their relief and most importantly entertainment. He’d planned this in an effort to raise morale, he knew from experience that when you felt down – you were already partially defeated. He couldn’t count how many times he’d felt that as he’d been force fed the bitter taste of defeat. His training with both the Knights and the Dancers were ruthless in different manners – both were incredibly taxing on his body. He’d shuffled through the sea of people whom were standing in line to see Charity, muttering apologies.
Once he’d reached the front of the line, he’d curtly turned to face them. His voice cut through their murmuring like a hot knife through butter, its’ soft edge veiled the fact he wasn’t merely requesting them to comply – no, he was demanding.
“My apologies, I believe the Faery requires a small break, the Deku Shamans will gladly tend to your injuries in the meantime.”
He ignored their groans and complains as some shuffled their way over. His men set right to work, they weren’t capable of utilizing such conventual magic as Charity, but they’d yielded similar results by touching into the raw, untapped power of the earth. Their results weren’t nearly as instantaneous either. No, they would take time and were accompanied by various medicinal remedies as well to accelerate the healing factor. Without so much as another word, he’d placed both the water skin and the bowl of soup in front of Charity.
“Don’t work yourself so hard – the injured will still be there when you are done eating. I know it’s’ hard to see them suffer, but if you aren’t careful you’ll be one of them."

IF MEMORIES ARE SHADOWS
we'd best not waste the light
Charity felt her head grow heavy with the levels of exhaustion she’d taken from the work. She mustered her hands up to her face before slapping both sides of her cheek to keep herself awake. It left faint red marks from the impact but the sting helped jolt her back to a stable state of consciousness. Adrenaline did wonders. She should’ve known better that a single fairy healing an entire city of injured wasn’t a feasible accomplishment to make.
As much as she didn’t want to disappoint the masses, she had to take a break. She was just about to grit her teeth and announce it but it seemed like she didn’t need to. The Deku Guard from earlier had arrived with impeccable time. With his Shamans, Dieter appeared and alerted everyone that she needed a break. Charity looked up to the Deku with awe and surprise. But quickly lowered her head in shame. "I'm sorry. I have a hard time saying no to people. Especially when they need help like this..."
She couldn’t let the people who were still waiting on her down. The desperation in their eyes. The hope they had when they realized there was a fairy among them who could heal the injured. Someone who could help them in their time of need. Alas she was but one who gave her identity away. She couldn't heal them all. "I hope you're doing the same as well, sir. Nothing today has been too strenuous on you?"
She looked back at the medicinal herb soup and water skin. She took a spoonful of the soup to try it. Her reaction was instantly a face of unexpected surprise (read disgust). "Bitter." She noted softly after she made a hard swallow. As to be expected from something that's supposed to be medicine. They said the bitter, the better.
