[googlefont=Open+Sans] 守りたいものを守れるのなら [attr="class","firstfriend"] すべてを受け入れて 未来(あした)を探す For what felt like the millionth time, Dieter found himself unfolding and re-reading an official transcript addressed to himself and signed by the Captain of the Deku Palace Guard. Aforementioned transcript served two-fold, it served as a Letter of Appointment, one that degreed that he was to assume the responsibilities of Captain of the Guard; effectively immediately. Additionally, it served as a letter of resignation for the current Captain of the Guard. Dieter’s hands trembled uncontrollably, a shaky, throaty breath escaping from between his lips. Dieter instinctively brought his right hand up, his fingers wiping underneath his eyes in an effort to hide the fact he'd already cried just a few minutes prior. He carefully refolded the trifold parchment, taking extra care so as to not create unnecessary creases or accidentally rip it. He’d deposited the signed doctrine upon the middle of his bed, pivoting on his heel as he prepared to ready himself to the ceremony that would take place in the Courtyard at Noon.
Dieter ran a boar-bristled brush through his hair, ignoring the pain in his scalp as he ripped a knot or two free. Once his hair was not free, he’d pulled it over shoulder and began to braid it into a fishtail plait braid. He’d bound off the end with a short length of verdant ribbon. The next thing he set to doing was donning his Guard Attire. It consisted of a simple pair of leather sandals that was secured to his legs by a series straps, accompanied by a lightweight pair of overlapping greaves. The next thing he donned was a simple, flowing cotton robe that concealed that portion of his armor almost entirely. Lastly, he slid on pair of bracers and would brandish his spear in its’ sling on his back. He’d paused briefly to inspect the contents the chest at the foot of his bed, it contained both the bomb mask and the hook shot he’d acquired as spoils from his battles.
He took one last look at himself in the mirror before he’d exited his room and made his way to the courtyard. It was already filled to the brim with the denizens of its’ court, not to mention a few invited guests to include Link and Colin. He stood at one side of the courtyard, opposite to the King, Queen, Royal Advisor and the current Captain of the Guard. He took one last deep breathe before he began approach the four, stopping at the edge of the laid down carpet and taking a knee as a sign of respect and his fealty.
“My Queen, My King, Royal Advisor and Captain of the Guard, I have come to answer your summons.”
For the time being, Dieter would say nothing more until he acknowledged by those he’d addressed.

Every passing day led to another check on his calendar. It'd become a routine for him, a reason for him to drag himself out of bed without letting hit heavy heart weigh down on him. Rise, check the day off, and get started. The hospitality shown to him and Colin spurred him to do whatever it was he could to repay the kindness. Most mornings were gone in a flash due to the training he threw himself into, and with instructions from Dieter as well as many others that peeked in to see what was going on, he improved at an alarming rate.
One thing could be said for the blond-haired hylian - he was a natural swordsman through and through.
Fancy attire didn't suit him well, but he didn't fret or push away the outfit presented to him on that day. Icemint leaves continuously were chewed on while he went about his business, untangling his locks and pulling the messy tendrils into a more presentable ponytail at the base of his skull. A single golden hoop earring, a lather of yarrowood scrub, and he doubted the goddesses themselves could make him more presentable for an official summons.
Now, if only his aching joints were a bit more flexible...
Having fallen into place a fair bit behind Dieter, the young man watched as things started to unfold. Whatever that would be, he wasn't entirely sure, but something was about to change. Of that there was no doubt. MADE BY ★MEULK

[/b] "Dieter, sire. Dieter Wolfram. You wished to promote him to captain of the guard." The butler said immediately, before shooting Dieter a sympathetic glance. "I did...?" The king replied with a bit of wonder at that. Another few seconds in silence passed before the king nodded slowly, a brief glimpse of despair on his features before he pushed them away. "I did..." The king meant no harm or offense, truly. But it had began in his fifties and whatever had taken hold of him had only gotten worse over the years. There were times where he, like his beloved queen, simply couldn't react to what was happening as if disoriented. "I... forgive me, young Dieter... I meant no offense." He gave the palace guard a soft smile that couldn't hide the sadness in his eyes. The wood creaking a little, he took notice of Link behind him, and the smile seemed to grow a little and for a moment, the King seemed a little younger. "It is good to see you looking so well, my friend. I feared you would never heal after..." And his face soured just a little before he said the name "Morrigan..." He shook his head, small splinters of wood breaking as he did. The youth lasted only for a second until he noticed the odd look from his butler. The age came back, and the king realized his error before bowing his head a little. "I apologize, young master, for a moment, I..."Best to leave the ghosts where they lie. [googlefont=Open+Sans] 守りたいものを守れるのなら [attr="class","firstfriend"] すべてを受け入れて 未来(あした)を探す For a period after he’d spoken, he was greeted only by silence; one that echoed across the entirety of the Palace’s courtyard. His head craned up a fraction of an inch to allow him to gaze upon his King and Queen. They’d never once forsaken their people, they’d sat dutifully upon the throne long past their intended longevity. Alas, their age had showed, their bodies were brittle, their mental acuity degraded with each passing day. His heart seized in his chest as the painful reality was once more thrust upon him, their leaders were dying. He heard the King’s pained groans as he forced himself to his feet, the Palace Butler steading his excellence. His teeth sunk into his lower lip hard enough to almost draw blood, he fought back the urge to usher his King to retake his throne. He knew he couldn’t do so, not in front of the Court or Link.
He felt the moment of silence as his King’s gaze lingered on him, one that was broken by the King inquiring about who was knelt before him. His head craned up just a bit farther just in time to see the Butler’s sympathetic glance. He’d seen the despair that painted the Elder Deku’s features. He just shook his head politely.
“No offense was taken my King.”
He reassured the King with a smile of his own, trying to forget the sadness that lingered deep within his King’s eyes. He heard the King’s body creak as his smile only grew wider upon noticing Link’s presence. The Deku King seldom spoke of the past, perhaps because it was laden with unpleasant memories or perhaps because he’d simply forgotten. He’d noticed the way his excellency’s face soured a bit before he’d uttered a name, Morrigan , why did that name sound remotely familiar. His lips tightened as he heard the resounding cracks as small splinters of bark rained down upon the ground. The uncertain look on the Butler’s face wasn’t lost upon the knight.
“ I don’t believe anyone else will be attending, my Liege.”
He said firmly, uncertain where Colin had gone.

The ancient creature known as the deku king proved that no matter how powerful one being might be, the sea of time always brought things full circle. How much longer would he and the queen be in the world? Would the heir to the throne be able to carry on the weight of responsibility that they left behind for it? Monarchies rose and fell all over the world all the time, and new ones came into power.
There was nothing to forgive his majesty for, and while he didn't speak out loud what he felt, he bowed lowly after being addressed to show more than just his acknowledgement, but his respect as well. Something said, though, struck him as odd. Morrigan? Had that been what attacked Ordon? Or was there something else, something he couldn't comprehend behind the old one's words?
If Colin arrived late, he would most likely hide his presence as not to interrupt the progression of the ceremony. Straightening his back, Link directed a look in Dieter's direction and nodded, sneaking in a quick smile as well. What his mouth didn't say, his eyes did.
Congrats. You deserve this. MADE BY ★MEULK

[/url] that he swiftly, and firmly, placed in the king's hands. The spear was a unique thing, the weapon of the king in ages past. Tales abounded of it, saying that it had all the power of the swamp itself in its blows. It was originally meant to pass down to their heir, but alas, one never came. So in time, all the Deku came to be their children. The king took the crimson spear and leaned on it heavily. "Dieter... Wolfram." He breathed. He took a moment to breathe and rest, as he was held steady. No being was truly immune to the ravages of time, not unless they fully removed themselves from its river into a cursed existence. "You have served us well since you have come here, faithfully, competently, and truly." It felt practiced, the fact it came out as clearly as it did made that obvious, but it was no less genuine. Dieter was certainly not the first, and he certainly wouldn't have been the last. "You have shown a love for all life, even those not of the Deku, risking your life to protect the village of Ordon from the... Lion of Thorns." At that, the king turned to the butler as if to confirm he had it right. When he received confirmation, he continued. "You put yourself in grave danger to rescue two lives," The young master behind him and... where was the other? Ah well, they must have just been shy. The king took no offense. "And protect our ally, Princess Zelda."Yes, Zelda. Another tragedy averted. If she had died, then thousands of years, a thousand thousand years would have been fought for nothing, annihilated in an instant. "In light...," The king took a moment to pause, catch his breath. Long has the river of time taken its toll. Even standing was tiring for the ancient king, and he was beginning to flag. "In light of your commendable service over the years, your exceptional bravery against the Lion of Thorns," His arms began to move as he did what he could to straighten his posture, hiding the expression of pain as the wood creaked and snapped. Reaching out, his butler steadied the spear, "And your valiant contribution to saving Ordon," And helped to lower the spear, resting it on one of Dieter's shoulders, before moving to the other. An odd tradition, obviously taken from Hyrule proper, but it seemed to do the trick. "I name you Lord Dieter Wolfram, Captain of the Palace Guard."Those seemed to be the words needed, and on cue, another Deku, this one carrying a pillow, stepped forward, a laurel wreath resting on its tyrian velvet. The king took the wreath, and in ages past, the wreath would have effortlessly been fitted onto Dieter's head. But, while it was slow, it was precise, and with the king's free hand, he stepped forward, relying on his friend and his spear for support, and managed to place it correctly on Dieter's head. A feat that he seemed rather proud of. And yet he remained standing. [/font][/ul][/div][/blockquote][/td][td] A N D

| LOST IN THE PLAYGROUND LATE NIGHT NOSTALGIA OPEN THE SKY FOR ME NOW A single door popped open gently before a dark cloaked figure hastily arrived, throwing on a crested visor-cap before immediately falling in rank with the royal attendees. The figure stood with one hand over his heart and one behind his back at attention as he stared off into nothing. His eyelashes blinked furiously as he silently swallowed his crushing embarrassment from being so late.
The tassels on his shoulder were knotted, and his cape-like cloak was frayed at the edge and covered in dust. Streaks across the pant legs looked like the trail left by a brush, desperately trying to loosen debris from the uniform. The badge of the Ordon Ram was neatly pinned to his breasted coat.
After hours of desperate attempts to clean his salvaged attire, Colin had been unable to restore the presentation of his Ordon parade uniform. It was one of the few souvenirs of Colin's home life that survived, an he had plans to wear it as an expression of gratitude for Cpt. Wolfram's intervention in the Ordon tragedy. Yet, in dedicating himself to the respect of the ceremony, he had made himself late for the ceremony itself.
He hoped -- prayed that no-one had noticed him slip in until after he already had. Being force to answer questions would only steal the show, and spoil Dieter's honoring.

[googlefont=Open+Sans] 守りたいものを守れるのなら [attr="class","firstfriend"] すべてを受け入れて 未来(あした)を探す Dieter’s azure eyes drifted softly shut as he was unwilling to bring himself to watch his King’s repeated struggle to rise to his own feet by virtue of a strength; such a moment of weakness discredited the King’s valiant efforts over the years. Immediately, a part of him regretted his decision, if only because it had intensified the crackling of the King’s withered body. It grew louder and louder with each passing attempt, only silenced marginally when the trusted Royal Butler tentative aided the Deku King to his feet. Once the symphony of crackles, snaps and pops had ceased, he’d forced himself to open his eyes again. Strangely enough, he’d remained silent as he’d witnessed the King’s lackluster foliage as it fell from his arms; a further reminded of not only just his age but the fact that the summer months were coming to an end. It wasn’t a secret that many within the Palace had come to conclusion that their King wouldn’t survive to the dreaded winter; Dieter, himself was a part of that majority. None the less, it wasn’t as if they’d be without a ruler, in their King’s passing, his wife the Queen would oversee the Kingdom.
Sadly, the reality was that she wasn’t in much better condition than her betrothed. The duo had been so focused on the well-being of their citizens that they’d never focused on themselves, such selflessness lead to yet another of the Kingdom’s many concerns; they’d failed to produce and heir to the throne. Dieter was torn from his revelry as the Butler gestured to another Deku, one whom immediately brought for a long, slim container. From within, they’d extracted a lone crimson spear, its’ length was atypical, a few inches longer than the average spear. It wasn’t the first time that Dieter had seen this particular spear either, yet it still filled him with a sense of admiration. This spear was the fabled weapon of the departed Deku Royalty, Persphone’s Scorn . The previous Captain of the guard had once told him in confidence, that the spear itself housed the very essence of the Swamp. But what did that mean? The Deku Swamp was dangerous for innumerous reasons, one could claim its’ best weapon was the one that no one thought of. Its’ hidden arsenal manifested itself in the form of putridity, rot, disease and pestilence that ran ramped within its’ domain.
It truly was a fearful weapon, even in the hand of their aged King. His attention continued to linger on the King as he leant on his spear, uttering his name once more to ensure he’d captivated the attention of all in attendance. Once more the King hesitated, further revealing the effects of the ravishes of time upon his body and mind. Dieter’s head dipped down a bit lower as he’d listened to the King’s speech. Somehow, listening to the accolades that praised his own merit, solemnly reminded him of weight of his actions. He was brought back to reality by the weight of the spear as it bore down upon his shoulders; it felt heavier than he’d have imagined. His eyes slid along its’ length and studied the weathered hand that brandished it. He fought the urge to reach up and clasp the King’s hand and further steady it, but to do so would ruin the ceremony. So, he’d continued to remain as still as statue as they brought forth a laurel wreath. He’d remained motionless for approximately thirty seconds before Dieter rose to his feet before the King. His hand drifted out to clasp around the King’s free hand. He held it for a moment, his eyes welling with unshed tears of pride. His lips moved yet no sound came out. It wasn’t hard to interpret what he’d said, it was a simple thank you. He’d also used this brief moment to recompose himself as he turned to face the crowd of spectators.
“ Thank you, your excellence. I am humbled by your praise. It is with great pride that I enact my first of many duties as Captain of the Guard…. Link, step forth and kneel before me.”
Dieter’s words were firm, they echoed over the quite murmuring amongst those in attendance. He’d paid the hushed whispers little mind, knowing what he was doing was unheard of. There hadn’t been a non Deku Palace Guard in their entire history. However, Dieter couldn’t simply ignore the fact that Link had been a crucial part in slaying both Selios and Ziegress; he’d saved his life more than once. ✉ | Sorry it's short, first post in a bit. |

What did he want with his life?
Such a question weighed on his mind more often than not lately, and with what happened to Ordon, unforeseen wheels began to turn to alter the course he may have otherwise taken without protest. The battle between wanting to stay in familiar comforts versus leaving to travel the greater world went back and forth for seasons upon seasons, neither showing clear signs of winning over the other. And yet, part of him always wondered what it would be that finally forced him to decide between the two opposing desires.
But were they truly opposing in the first place? He might have been able to return home whenever he wanted, bringing gifts to the people he adored with his entire heart and soul. He would have been able to gather around a large bonfire with them and tell stories of his travels, and recount the numerous adventures he had, and when the night burned away by the fireside, fill the heads of young and old folk alike with vivid images painted by his words.
So really, what did he want with his life? And more importantly, if he already knew the answer, why had it taken him so long to accept it? Was it fear that held him back or was it something harder to explain?
One thing he did know for certain was that the kindness shown to him by the new captain of the guard as well as others from the swamp... that was something he'd gladly spend his life repaying.
Without any hesitation in his mind, he walked forward with his head high, and kept his eyes locked on Dieter's. There was no need to waver or buckle in his kneeling, and when his knee touched the ground, he felt the beginnings of a smile on his face.
They were all taking small steps to something greater. And he, for once, felt proud to be part of it all. In that moment, it was enough for him. MADE BY ★MEULK

| LOST IN THE PLAYGROUND LATE NIGHT NOSTALGIA OPEN THE SKY FOR ME NOW Colin's neck twisted reflexively, almost surprised that Link was being called to the forefront of the ceremony. That was until he remembered his conversation with Link on their way back from Ordon. Link had been there the entire time, he hadn't faltered or failed anyone. Colin knew he would never accept it, but Link truly was as much a hero as Dieter. The both of them deserved awards.
Colin's eyes turned away, knowing that the only reason he was on the front lines at all was to join the rest of the village as a martyr for vengeance; but even that, he had failed at. Colin began to wonder if he should have even been here at all.
His lips parted, as he realized that by coming here, he risked putting himself to possibly being an accessory to Dieter's noble stunt. Colin's chest rose and fall quickly as he tried to contain his internal panic. The only thing Colin could do now, is be proud of Link, and pray that no-one call attention to his own behavior at Ordon.

And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain Dieter’s cerulean eyes sparkled with unspoken pride as he’d watched Link purposefully make his way down the carpeted isle, his head held high with a sense of pride; far different from the defeated and broken soul they’d welcomed into their Swamp. It was moments such as this that proved that one couldn’t underestimate the weight of a singular act of kindness. He adamantly believed that the Deku’s generosity had been enough to help the fair-haired apprentice knight reground himself. Of course, Dieter still saw glimpses of sadness in the depths of Link’s royal blue eyes. He had no doubt with time, those scars on his heart would begin to fade, they’d never quite disappear but the associated pain would dwindle as well. Colin on the other hand, his progress was notably slower but he’d also suffered significantly more trauma. He banished that thought with a curt shake of his head. A few of his platinum tresses coming free of the braid as he’d reached back to grip the haft of his spear. A practiced roll of his wrist would level the tip of his spear, pressing it flush against Link’s shoulder. Its weight bore down against the bone, where it would linger as Dieter addressed the crowd of onlookers. ” Today, it is my great pleasure to pronounce to Sir Link.” He’d rolled his wrist once more, the blade of his spear danced just a fraction of an inch above Link’s head before it came to rest on his other shoulder. It was then he’d smiled as he then knelt down as well. He spun the blade and brandished it horizontally so that it’s blade was now ran parallel to the ground. He’d presented the spear to Link by doing so he also passed the metaphorical torch. He’d prayed that Link would rise alongside of him, if not to only one day surpass him; it meant he’d done his job as an instructor. In the background, another Deku had begun to move and now stood behind Dieter holding another spear and sealed parchment that was addressed to Link. He knelt behind Dieter to whisper, it was a summons from Princess Zelda. He’d nodded his head and leant closer to Link’s ears to whisper. “ Lady Zelda is summoning you to Castle Town, take my Spear and know that I have high hopes for you, now hurry, don’t make her wait.” Once Link took the spear, Dieter would rise to his feet and then address the crown once more. “ Colins, please come forth. I wish to offer you an apprenticeship with the Guard.” Dieter couldn’t vouch for Colin to the extent he could with Link, but he prayed that one day the green haired warrior would come to join their midst. He'd presented Colin with a practice spear, smiling softly before he'd whispered in his ear. "We'll begin training tomorrow. He said before he'd craned his head in the direction of one of his Guards as they'd approached, they'd whispered something in his ear, his eyes widened before he nodded in understanding. He already had some matters to attend to as the newly promoted Guard. He said nothing more as he'd pivoted on his heel and made his way out of the festivity to deal with an unwelcome intruder in the Woods.

The royal summons wasn't something he expected to receive. But he did, taking both it and his spear, and rose alongside Dieter. What could it be about? Had he done something to offend the royal family? Perish the thought. If anything, mayhaps they learned he survived the Ordon situation? It might make sense if what he believed about the woman and the knights proved to be true.
With a smile and a bow toward Dieter, and a quick wink toward Colin, the Hylian moved away from the fray and started to make his way to where his trusty horse would be waiting for him. If nothing else, Epona certainly enjoyed the treatment from the swamp dwellers; plenty of delicious hay and carrots awaited her daily!
If he knew what would happen later that day after arriving in the capitol... he might have prepared himself better. For it very well might have been the last time he saw either of them. MADE BY ★MEULK

steal a soul for a second chance |
Well, here it was; the exact moment that Colin thought would break his will and shatter his honor. Though, he couldn't say he was surprised. There was a lot to be gained by honoring the survivors of Ordon as veterans in their own right, regardless of how much fighting may have actually happened. His chin fell as he remembered the weight of the house that had fallen atop him. It was much like the weight he had just been given to represent an entire village of lost souls. It was a role he didn't want to play, but he didn't have a choice. He was the only Ordonian left to accept the honors and condolences of countless men and women involved in a devastating tragedy; and he knew it fell on him to take the offer granted.
He raised his head high, taking a deep breath through his nose before stepping forward through the ranks. He marched forward, the way he imagined he'd be expected to; legs straight; long, proud strides; ninety degree pivots. His formal and militaristic approach to the ceremony was likely misplaced, given the typical tone and conduct of Deku tradition, but this was a difficult, and somber event for Colin. It marked the age of a new Era where Ordon would either be forgotten completely, or regrown with but a handful of its former roots.
With lifeless and unassuming eyes; Colin stood staring at the new Captain before removing his cap, and kneeling before Dieter -- as well as His and Her Royal Grace. Whatever trials, whatever training, whatever violence -- aches, or pains came with accepting this title, Colin was ready. He knew it was to be his fate, because he understood that the fate of a village, if not a nation was about to fall into his battered hands.
