"Now I have the whole rest of the day to do what I want! I'll be back later, grandmother!"
So said the voice of a teenage girl as she stepped out the door of her home, waving to an incredibly small elderly woman inside the doorway. The grandmother gave a soft smile and shakily waved back. Her granddaughter was always good about getting her chores done early. Looking out to see the sun, it wasn't even noon but everything to be done for the day was already finished. Her body was frail and long passed its prime, but this girl was so diligent there was never anything left for her to do. Deciding to resume her daily hobby, she got some tea and sat outside her door watching the other occupants of their little village going about their day.
With a small rush in her stride, the girl arrived at her first destination for the day; their local temple of the Goddesses. It wasn't an elaborate structure, a small wooden building near the outskirts of their village with a single priest as its occupant. However, many in the village came by here whenever they wished to offer their thoughts and prayers to the Goddesses. It wasn't a necessary tradition, but it was a tradition of their village none the less. Even the Hylian Knights that occasionally came through would pay a visit in prayer. This visit was something that had been performed for as long as she could remember, and she was good friends with the priest here. In fact, her coming by was pretty much a daily occurrence. There was a particular reason she did so...
"I'm here to listen to your song, Priest Kyrie!"
"Right on time as always, Nimue. I do wonder how you do not get bored of hearing this worn down organ play." the man responded with a small amount of sarcasm, as this exchange was part of their daily routine. Changing how he spoke gave him a small amount of amusement if only to see how she would react. She stood in the open door of the temple catching her breath, and he stood in his place near the back of the main hall. The building was fairly simple, consisting of two rooms: the main gathering hall where visitors would offer their prayers, and the back room where Priest Kyrie resided. On the back wall of the main hall was a large instrument with many brass pipes and many keys, taking up a large portion of the wall. It was this instrument that she came to listen to, and the priest was always willing to oblige. He took his seat at the keys as she took her seat on one of the benches that filled the temple's main hall.
And so he played, letting himself be lost from the toils of the day in the music for just a little bit. For Nimue, it was a song that was beautiful, but it felt a little bit sad. No matter how many times she heard it, no matter what day it was, there was always a hint of sadness in its notes. Even with the bustle outside from the villagers going out to the woods for gathering wood and hunting game, the beauty of the song was not tarnished. She brushed one of her bangs behind her ear, fiddling with a small pink ribbon in her hair on that side for a moment before turning her gaze back to the priest. In that moment, something seemed off. There were a lot more shadows being cast on him than there were a moment ago. Looking out one of the windows, it was much darker outside than it was before. Was there a storm suddenly rolling in? The day was so clear not that long ago.
"What is that sound?" Priest Kyrie asked as he stopped playing for a moment. However, the only answer was silence.
"I didn't hear anything."
"Listen..." and so his fingers struck the keys again. Nothing sounded strange at first, but soon she too began to hear a strange sound. It was not a voice, but it felt like one; it was not a cry, but it wanted to be one; that was the impression this new sound left on Nimue. The sound almost seemed to be reacting to the organ, and when he stopped playing again, the noise stopped. However, that left a new question for Nimue...
"Why is it so quiet outside?"
